Bangor - It was a revolving door of pets during a clinic at the Bangor Humane Society on Saturday. Owners were eager to bring in their dogs and cats to have them microchipped.
Lead Adoption Counselor Sonia Boissonneault said in the first two hours of the clinic, they saw about 80 pets.
It gives owners a feeling of safety, knowing that if their pets get lost this could help bring them home again.
"He's like a member of the family and we would hate to lose him. We've lost him once for a few hours and that was very traumatizing for a few of us in the household, so we wanted to make sure that didn't happen again," said Natalie Arsenault of Veazie who brought her dog in to the clinic.
The microchip is inserted under the pet's skin. Shelters all over the country have scanners, so that if a missing pet ends up there, a quick scan of the microchip could reunite a pet with his owner.
"If the pet's not wearing a collar, there's no way that we can identify it. So if there is a microchip, we scan it with our little wand and it brings up the owner's information and we can reunite them quicker than them staying here and the owners not knowing where to look," said Boissonnealt.
The best part is it's quick and easy.
"I kind of explain it like getting your ears pierced. It's just a quick little needle jab, I guess, and that's it," explained Boissonneult.
Arsenault said, "It was just, right in there, they put the microchip in and I was out, all less than a minute."
